I first heard the term "spiritual direction" many years back when one of my friends suggested we should enroll in a course to learn how to be spiritual directors.  She said, "I have a wonderful plan for your life...want to hear it?"  Isn't it great to have friends who push us out of our comfort zones and invite us to new adventures?  I'm deeply grateful for this unexpected side trip into a three year program at Mt. St. Mary's University that helped me learn how to slow down, listen, ask better questions, and stop thinking I know very many answers at all.  "Direction" is a misnomer in that what really happens isn't giving any directions at all, it's about being with people and listening and praying and paying attention.  What might God be saying? In general, the training to become a spiritual director was a time of rich growth for me personally.  The training required having a spiritual director while learning to become one. All in all it was an introduction to a new stream of life, a new way to be in this world, and to perhaps hear from God in a new/different way.   Now I am so thankful to be able to offer online spiritual direction/companionship to anyone looking for a safe place to be able to process life, thoughts about God, how to hear Him more clearly...a place to be seen and heard.  I am not a trained therapist, and this is not therapy.  However, as I have experienced first hand, there is much healing and spiritual growth possible through spiritual direction. ​
